Founder’s Corner #29 Is Imposter Syndrome Always a Negative Thing?

Today, I wanted to dive into a topic that is all too familiar with so many of us. Whether you’re a content creator, an entrepreneur, solopreneur, podcaster, public speaker, you name it, we’ve all had at least one encounter with a certain imposter. Of course, I’m talking about Imposter Syndrome.

We all know that Imposter Syndrome can debilitate us, make us feel incompetent, and sometimes, stop us in our tracks. But what if I told you that doesn’t always have to be the case…

What if Imposter Syndrome doesn’t always have to be a negative thing…

But first…

The Founder’s Corner posts are based on previous segments from our weekly newsletter. So if you want this type of content first, check out the link at the end of this post!

Now, let’s dive into today’s post!

Is There’s An Imposter (Syndrome) In The Room?

As creators in the ever-evolving world of podcasting, we’re no strangers to moments of self-doubt and insecurity. But what if I told you that these feelings could actually be a sign of growth and opportunity?

Over the last nine years, I’ve certainly encountered Imposter Syndrome more times than I care to admit.

Like many others, I found myself questioning my abilities and feeling out of place. In those moments, I retreated behind my work and relied on my team to carry me through.

But as the demands of the industry pushed me back into the spotlight, I began to reconsider my perspective:

Why does Imposter Syndrome have to be a negative thing?

Instead of letting it paralyze us with self-doubt, what if we saw it as a sign that we’re pushing ourselves beyond our comfort zones?

“Whenever I feel overwhelmed, I try to remind myself: No one has any idea what the hell they’re doing.

Some people are just better at putting on a brave face and marching forward into the unknown.” – Sahil Bloom

So today, let’s bust our perspectives so we can see Imposter Syndrome in a new light:

How To Reframe Imposter Syndrome

Imposter Syndrome

1. Everyone Feels It

Whether you’re a seasoned podcaster with hundreds of episodes under your belt or a newbie just starting out, Imposter Syndrome doesn’t discriminate. It’s a reminder that we’re all human. And it’s okay to feel uncertain sometimes! So the next time you find yourself doubting your abilities, know that you’re not alone.

2. Growth Amidst Discomfort

Some of the greatest moments of growth in my podcasting journey have come during times of discomfort. Whether it’s trying out a new format, interviewing a high-profile guest, or tackling a challenging topic, learning to embrace the discomfort of Imposter Syndrome has pushed me to new heights. So don’t shy away from those feelings—lean into them and watch yourself grow.

3. A Compass for Ambition

Imposter Syndrome can also serve as a compass guiding you toward your podcasting ambitions. If you’re not experiencing moments of doubt, perhaps you’re not pushing yourself hard enough?

Embrace the discomfort and let it propel you towards achieving your podcasting goals!

My Hot Take On Imposter Syndrome

If we want to avoid Imposter Syndrome altogether, the solution is simple: play it safe, stick to what we know, and never venture outside our comfort zones.

But where’s the fun in that?

So the next time you find yourself grappling with feelings of inadequacy, remember this: you’re not alone, you’re in the midst of growth, and you’re heading in the right direction.

Your voice matters, so don’t let Imposter Syndrome hold you back.
